Training
“…best place in the world, best facilities, best food, best trainers – so much fun!! loveliest ppl eva!”
Lou – Australia (aka Louise Bryan from Master Toddy’s ”Tuff Girls”)
There’s a huge difference between a pad holder and a professional Muay Thai trainer. A trainer will teach you skills, impart technique, and advance your fitness and form. They will do all of this at a tempo that is challenging to you.
Quite simply, we don’t employ pad holders at PGB. From the time you arrive until the time you leave, you’ll be under the supervision and guidance of your own professional Muay Thai trainer.
Since moving to our new fabulous location we’ve been extremely busy. In response to that demand we recently doubled our daily training hours. PBG is a now open for personal training 6 hours a day!!
Monday to Saturday we train from 8am – 11am then from 4pm – 7pm. Sunday is a rest day at camp. You can still train on a Sunday if you’re on a tight schedule but there is an extra charge for this.
Personal training sessions (Monday to Saturday) begin on the hour at 8am,9am,10am and again in the afternoons at 4pm, 5pm & 6pm.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to warm up. Your session with your trainer begins exactly on the hour so if you prefer to run or do an extended warm up, make sure you allow enough time to begin on the hour. Bring your wraps and gloves as well as 2 towels & your swimmers/bathers with you. You’ll need a personal towel + another to cover and wipe down equipment. If you intend on sparring, please also bring your mouth guard and shin guards. Of course if you don’t have any gear, we have a fully stocked pro boxing shop onsite filled with authentic Twins Special & Top King gear.
After your first training session will will book you in to a set time for your daily training schedule with your trainer.
All PBG guests are able to use our brand new Infinity Pool & Jacuzzi as well as our Traditional Thai Sauna. If you’re staying with us, or even just training with us casually, and you’d like to spend the day at camp, you’re welcome to Steam, Swim, and laze by the pool in between sessions. Our Fruit Shake Shack serves light meals and cool drinks poolside.
All of the training sessions at PBG are one-on-one. Many of the other gyms throughout Phuket charge additional fees for private one-on-one lessons and label it as “VIP training”. At PBG, we view all of our students as VIP’s and we don’t charge you extra to be treated as such. Our trainers will not hold back on you in hope of getting you to pay for a VIP session. That doesn’t happen here. We’ll also never put you into a shared room with a stranger/s.
Our on site Villa’s are all private accommodation (not shared rooms or dorms) – all Villa’s are air conditioned, en suited, with in room safes, working area, have tea & coffee making facilities, King size beds, complimentary wi-fi and cable tv - and did we mention that each villa has amazing Andaman ocean views? The only time we’ll do shared accommodation is if you specifically request it because you’re travelling with a friend and are trying to cut costs. In that case we’ll install 2 king single beds, but you’ll still have access to all the same amazing facilities……and no strangers!
If you still want more luxury the Secret Cliff Resort can help you (located diagonally across the road from the training camp) They offer an additional 44 “four star” hotel rooms combined with training packages at PBG.
To give you an idea of what to expect, here’s an overview of a typical session..
- Skipping
- Stretching
- Shadow Boxing Instruction
- Technique & Stance Work With Your Trainer at slow motion and low power
- Pad Work With Your Trainer at full intensity (5 full rounds)
- Bag Work With Your Trainer
- Strength & Conditioning Coaching
- Sit Ups And Stretches To Finish Off
Feel free to use our weights conditioning area at any time during the day. In addition to the standard twice daily personal training sessions, our fighters do a mandatory pre-training run, you’re welcome to join them if you need the extra motivation.
The majority of our students will also join the trainers and fighters to finish off the afternoon training session with tag team sparring and clinching in the ring. This begins at around 5.30 every day. PBG has a fantastic win rate and we plan on keeping it that way. Our fighters receive additional technique, sparring and clinching instruction – which often pans out to 6 hours training per day – giving them (and us) the winning edge – and all at no extra charge!
Since the training is one-on-one, it’s tailored to your needs so there is no “set-in-stone” outline of the workouts. If your trainer feels you need to spend more time working on something specific (kicks for example), then that’s what you’ll do. Likewise, if there’s something you want to spend more time on, just let your trainer know and the session will be geared around your request. If you want to focus on clinching or sparring one day, then that’s what you will be doing.
It is important to us that you leave here with a technique and stance that we can be proud of. All our trainers are instructed to emphasize proper technique. If your stance is out, or you’re doing something wrong, they’ll let you know – oftentimes over and over again – until you get it right!
Regardless of whether you’re training for fun & fitness or are a professional fighter, or want to become a professional Nak Muay, the trainers here will cater to your needs. Once you’re fight fit, ring ready and up for the challenge, we can book fights for you at the National (WPMF Sanctioned) Thai stadium against equally matched opponents. Our trainers are multi belted Lumpinee and Raja Stadium fighters. We’ve even trained others to go on to win the presitigious “Kings Cup” belt.
Of course, no fight training would be complete without a wai kru. So stop in and give PBG a try – you’ll be glad you did.
